Parent FAQ
Answers to common questions about keeping your children safe on Voxel Outpost
Getting Started
What age is Voxel Outpost suitable for?
Voxel Outpost is designed for gamers of all ages, including children under 13 with parental permission. We provide age-appropriate experiences with different safety levels based on age groups: under 13 (most restrictive), 13-17 (high privacy), and 18+ (standard).
How do I link my child's account?
Go to your Parent Zone and click 'Link Child Account.' You'll receive a 6-character link code that your child enters during their onboarding, or you can generate a registration link to send them. You must be 18+ to link a child account.
Can I manage multiple children's accounts?
Yes! You can link and manage multiple children's accounts from a single parent account. Each child will have their own profile with age-appropriate settings.
Do I need to pay for Voxel Outpost?
Voxel Outpost offers both free and premium tiers. The free tier includes all essential safety features and parental controls. Premium features may include additional servers, customization options, and extended call durations.
Safety & Privacy
How is my child's data protected?
We comply with UK GDPR and the Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC). Children under 13 have the most restrictive privacy settings by default: private profiles, no online status shown, no direct friend requests, and no data collection for advertising. All data is encrypted and stored securely.
What privacy settings are in place for children?
Under-13s: Private profile, no online status, friend requests require parent approval, no data collection. Ages 13-17: Friends-only profile, no online status, high privacy defaults. Parents can adjust these settings at any time in Parent Zone.
Can my child message anyone?
Children under 13 can only message friends approved by you. All messages are monitored by our AI safety system which flags inappropriate content and notifies parents. Direct messages from strangers are blocked.
How does content moderation work?
We use AI-powered content moderation (OpenAI) combined with gaming-specific keyword filters. Inappropriate messages are blocked before delivery. Concerning patterns trigger parent notifications. We also have human moderators for appeals and complex cases.
Do you track my child's location?
No. Geolocation services are disabled by default for all children. We do not track or collect location data from users under 18.
Do you show adverts to children?
Absolutely not. We do NOT show any advertisements, behavioural tracking, or profiling for users under 18. No third-party trackers are allowed on our platform for any age group.
Can I export my child's data?
Yes. You can export a complete copy of your child's data at any time from Parent Zone → Privacy → Export Child Data. This includes their profile, messages, activities, and all stored information in JSON format.
How do I delete my child's account?
Go to Parent Zone → Child Settings → Delete Account. There's a 30-day grace period where you can cancel the deletion. After 30 days, all data is permanently and irreversibly deleted (except legal retention requirements).
Parental Controls
What controls do I have over my child's activity?
You can: approve/deny friend requests, approve server/group joins, set call time limits and schedules, view all activity logs, monitor messages (flagged by AI), change privacy settings, and delete their account. All from the Parent Zone dashboard.
How do friend requests work for under-13s?
Children under 13 cannot accept friend requests directly. All friend requests go to you for approval in Parent Zone. You can also send friend requests on behalf of your child to other children (with their parent's approval).
Can I set time limits for gaming?
Yes. In Parent Zone → Call Settings, you can set: maximum call duration per session, allowed time windows (e.g., 3pm-8pm), allowed days of the week, and daily/weekly usage limits. Your child will receive warnings before time expires.
What notifications will I receive?
You'll be notified when: a friend request is received, server/group join requested, inappropriate content is flagged, your child receives a warning, account deletion is requested, and for other important safety events. You can customize notification preferences.
Can I see my child's messages?
You can see messages flagged by our AI moderation system for containing concerning content. We don't provide full message history access to respect reasonable privacy expectations, but all concerning content is flagged and visible to you.
How do I approve servers and groups?
When your child tries to join a server or group, you receive a notification in Parent Zone with full details (name, description, members, rules). You can approve or deny with a reason. Your child sees your decision immediately.
Friends & Communication
How can my child befriend other children?
Three ways: (1) You send a friend request on behalf of your child to another child (both parents must approve), (2) Another parent sends a request to your child (you approve), (3) Children 13+ can send requests that you approve. Parent-to-parent coordination is safest for under-13s.
Can my child use voice chat?
Yes, but only with approved friends and within your set time limits. Voice chat requires parental approval for calls. You can enable/disable voice chat entirely, set maximum call durations, and restrict call times to specific hours.
What happens if my child is bullied?
Your child (or you) can report the user. We investigate immediately. Depending on severity: warning to offender, temporary suspension, or permanent ban. You're notified of the outcome. Serious cases may be reported to authorities. Your child can also block users instantly.
Can my child play with adults?
While not prohibited, our system flags age-gap communications. Adults can only be friends with children if you explicitly approve the friendship. We monitor adult-child interactions more closely for safety.
Technical & Account
What if I forget my password?
Use the 'Forgot Password' link on the login page. You'll receive a password reset email. For security, we use Keycloak authentication, so password resets are secure and verified.
Can I change my child's age after registration?
Date of birth cannot be changed after account creation for compliance reasons. If there was an error, contact voxeloutpost@79it.uk with proof of correct age. This prevents abuse of age verification systems.
What data is retained after account deletion?
After the 30-day grace period, we permanently delete: profile info, messages, activities, friends list, preferences. We retain: moderation logs (7 years - legal requirement), parental consent records (child account duration + 2 years), and anonymized analytics.
Can I transfer my child's account to another parent?
Yes. In Parent Zone → Child Settings → Transfer Account, you can transfer primary parental control to another verified parent (must be 18+). Both parents must approve the transfer. This is useful for custody arrangements.
What if my child turns 13?
When your child turns 13, their privacy settings automatically update to the 13-17 tier (less restrictive but still protected). They can now accept friend requests directly, but you retain full Parent Zone access until they turn 18.
Is Voxel Outpost available on mobile?
Currently, Voxel Outpost is web-based and works on mobile browsers. Native iOS and Android apps are in development and will include the same safety features and parental controls.
Legal & Compliance
Is Voxel Outpost UK GDPR compliant?
Yes. We fully comply with UK GDPR and the Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC). This includes: verifiable parental consent for under-13s, minimal data collection, age-appropriate privacy defaults, no profiling of children, and clear data retention policies.
What is the Age Appropriate Design Code?
The UK AADC (Children's Code) sets 15 standards for services likely to be accessed by children. We comply with all standards including: privacy by default, no behavioural advertising, no nudge techniques, parental controls, and transparent data practices.
Do you report illegal content?
Yes. We have mandatory reporting procedures for CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and National Crime Agency (NCA). We use PhotoDNA and AI detection to prevent CSAM uploads. Any detected content is reported within 24 hours.
Can law enforcement access my child's data?
Only with a valid legal request (warrant, court order). We review all requests with our legal team. We notify parents unless legally prohibited. We cooperate with child safety investigations while protecting privacy rights.
Who can I contact about privacy concerns?
Email voxeloutpost@79it.uk for privacy, compliance or safety concerns. We respond to all inquiries within 30 days per UK GDPR requirements.
Where is data stored?
All data is stored on UK-based servers (or EU servers with equivalent protections). We do not transfer children's data outside the UK/EU. Our cloud provider is Azure with UK data residency.
